A Statement on Recent Service Disruptions
Like many industries, CTtransit is experiencing a workforce shortage each day that is significantly impacting our ability to run all the scheduled services each day in our Hartford and CTfastrak operating Divisions. We sincerely apologize for the ongoing uncertainty and unexpected cancellations of trips resulting from this staffing shortfall.
The CTtransit Hartford Division currently employs 431 bus operators. Although this is slightly below our staffing target, the reason for the cancellations is a much higher-than-normal level of absenteeism. Historically, daily absenteeism averaged between 10-13% from 2018-2022. We are currently experiencing absenteeism of approximately 21%.
Every effort is made each day to utilize personnel on overtime, as well as trying to mitigate impacts by cutting service for which alternatives are available. But despite that, we acknowledge that trips have the potential to be cancelled with limited notice.
