General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) is an open format spec used by hundreds of transit agencies to power transit directions in a variety of Web and transit apps, including Google Maps. The information provided through data feeds includes static schedule and service data using an open standard.

While we provide the data and maintain the sources, we're not able to provide support directly in how to write your software. Please, keep CTtransit information current. We make it easy, we'll let you know when we have new or updated data. Just sign up.

Real-time Data Feeds

The release of real-time data feeds for CTfastrak and CTtransit Hartford is the first phase of an initiative which will make similar information available for CTtransit services state-wide in the future.

We encourage developers to create applications based on these data feeds to provide real-time information to transit riders in the region and eventually through the entire CTtransit system statewide.

To provide feedback and get the latest updates, join our CTtransit Developers discussion forum. You can also e-mail us

Real-time data feeds are available for vehicle positions, trip updates, and alerts as well as a combined feed, which includes all three. These feeds are provided in both GTFS-realtime and JSON formats. The developer documentation provides more information about these formats.

Real-time data needs to be combined with GTFS schedule data to be meaningful. You can find GTFS data as part of the Hartford division data here.
